How stamp duty is worked out in NT

Territory Revenue Office charges it when a car is first registered and every time the registration moves to a new owner, private sale or dealer. For a sale between unrelated people, duty is on the price paid, including accessories, any trade-in and dealer delivery, GST included. Unlike the states, the Territory does not swap in a higher market value; it uses the market value only when there is no ordinary sale, such as a gift.
