A182193280-ZPSR - MY2014 to MY2016 VF Commodore & WN Caprice - Electric Power Steering Loss of Assist (C0545)
GM Holden has identified an issue where fretting corrosion may develop on the electrical terminals within the Electric Steering Gear Torque Sensor connectors. Over time this condition may result in a loss of power steering assistance for the duration of an ignition cycle and may set DTC C0545
If the condition occurs in a customer's vehicle, they will hear an audible warning chime and will see a message appear on the instrument cluster, which reads “Service Power Steering, Drive with Care”. At this time, depending on the speed the vehicle is travelling, the customer may notice that the steering wheel becomes heavier to turn, particularly at vehicle speeds below 20km/h. The condition does not affect any other vehicle system, such as the brakes or Supplemental Restraint System (Airbags and seatbelt pretensioner devices).
Once parts are available, GM Holden dealers to inspect the vehicle to identify an affected Electric Power Steering Gear assembly. If a vehicle is found to have an affected assembly, dealers will fit a replacement parts kit that will include a revised Steering Gear Motor, Torque Sensor Cover and Wiring Harness.
